About the Conference
The Department of Economic Sciences at the
Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur will organize its Research Scholars' Day 2026 from February 13-14, 2026.
The event aims to provide a vibrant platform for research scholars to showcase their ongoing work, exchange ideas, and receive constructive feedback from faculty members and peers.
It brings together scholars working in various areas of economics—from theoretical and empirical research to policy-related studies—fostering a better understanding of current economic issues.
We welcome you to attend the conference, and present your research.

We are pleased to host Prof. Tarun Jain (IIM Ahmedabad) and Prof. Mausumi Das (Delhi School of Economics) as keynote speakers for the event.
Pre-Conference Workshop

About the Department of Economic Sciences
The Department of Economic Sciences at IIT Kanpur offers a dynamic and intellectually stimulating environment for teaching and research.
The department brings together scholars with diverse interests spanning both foundational and applied areas of economics.
Apart from having strength in traditional areas like microeconomics, macroeconomics, and econometrics; the department has expertise in financial, development economics, agricultural economics, optimization theory, political economy as well as Bayesian econometrics.
The department actively fosters interdisciplinary research, encourages collaboration across disciplines, and strives to contribute meaningfully to contemporary policy discussions and economic understanding.

Pre-Conference Workshop
The Research Scholars' Day 2026 will feature a 90-minute pre-conference workshop on “Remote Sensing Data for Economists”, scheduled for the evening of 12 February 2026, to be led by Dr. Anna Thottappilly.
Dr. Thottappilly is currently an Assistant Professor in the Department of Economic Sciences at the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur.
She obtained her PhD in Applied Economics & Management from Cornell University in 2023. A development economist by training,
her work spans agriculture, nutrition and climate change: in particular she explores how climate-change-related factors (such as elevated atmospheric CO₂) affect agricultural yields and thus future nutrition security,
and investigates Indian agricultural markets to design nutrition-sensitive interventions.
How to Reach IIT Kanpur
By Air:
- The nearest international airport is Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport, Lucknow (LKO),
located approximately 90 km from IIT Kanpur. The airport is well connected to major cities across India.
Prepaid taxis as well as app-based outstation cab services (Ola/Uber/Rapido) are available from the airport.
The journey typically takes 2.5–3 hours, with fares of around ₹2500 for prepaid taxis and approximately ₹1600 via app-based services.
- Kanpur Chakeri Airport (KNU) has limited flight connectivity and is situated about 25 km from the campus.
Travel time to IIT Kanpur is approximately 1–1.5 hours, with taxi fares in the range of ₹1200–1500 and app-based cab fares of about ₹600–800.
By Train:
- Kanpur Central Railway Station (CNB) is a major railway junction and is well connected to cities across the country.
IIT Kanpur is located approximately 15 km from the station.
- From Kanpur Central, visitors may reach the campus by Kanpur Metro (fare: ₹40, running time: approximately 25 minutes),
by app-based cab services such as Ola/Uber/Rapido (fare: ₹500–650), or by auto-rickshaw (fare: approximately ₹250).
Road travel usually takes 50–60 minutes, depending on traffic conditions.
- For those using the Kanpur Metro, after reaching at the IIT Kanpur Metro Station,
auto-rickshaws and e-rickshaws are readily available outside the station to travel inside the campus.
The typical fare is around ₹80 for an auto-rickshaw and ₹40 for an e-rickshaw (subject to variation of ₹10–20 depending on availability).
The travel time from the metro station to the department is approximately 10 minutes.
- The Kanpur Metro operates daily from 6:00 AM to 10:00 PM, with services running at a frequency of every 15 minutes.
The metro station at Kanpur Central is located near Platform No. 9 of the railway station.
On Arrival at IIT Kanpur:
- Visitors should enter the campus through the main gate and report at the security checkpoint.
Please inform the security personnel that you are visiting the Department of Economic Sciences for the conference.
You may be required to present your invitation letter, so it is advisable to keep it readily available.
The Department of Economic Sciences is located on the third floor of the ESB-2 building, approximately 2 km from the main entrance gate.
- Visitors proceeding to Visitors’ Hostel-1 or Visitors’ Hostel-2 are required to follow the same security procedure at the main gate.
For reference, Visitors’ Hostel-1 is located near GH-1, and Visitors’ Hostel-2 is located near Hall-12/Hall-14.

Registration
There is no registration fee for the conference. However, registration is compulsary for all the conference participants.
On campus accommodation will be provided for all the presenters.
